Desert Festival in Jaisalmer is being held in the month of February in 2015. The festival is scheduled from February 1- February 3 thereby making February 2015 an ideal time to visit the magical deserts of Rajasthan.
The Desert Festival is a three-day extravaganza exhibiting the live and culture of the desert. golden city of Jaisalmer. The festival is filled with colour, music, festivity is a wonderful opportunity to experience the Jaisalmer culture in its full glory. It starts with a morning procession from Sonar Fort to the Shahid Poonam Singh Stadium. There are many events and activities for you to enjoy including camel races, polo matches, turban tying competitions, display of the most glorious moustaches and a Mr Desert competition. There are performances by snake charmers, puppeteers and acrobats. Gair and fire dancers are a major highlight of the 3 day long festival that ends on full moon day i.e. Purnima. . The fest is quite popular among the locals too who dance to the tunes of lingering ballads of heroism, romance and tragedy of the folk heroes danced in colourful traditional attire.
Jaisalmer is accessible by rail and road from Jodhpur. The journey takes around six hours.
