1) Yangon: It is the capital city and the most important gateway to Myanmar. This city is known for its colonial architecture, which although decaying, remains an almost unique example of a 19th-century British colonial capital. Here, Shwedagon, the heart of Yangon, is the most profoundly honoured pagoda in the country and has an interesting history behind. Towering to a height of 326 feet (100 meters) above the city, Shwedagon Pagoda is the famous landmark noticeable from miles around. It is one of the wonders of the world and the most revered pagoda in Southeast Asia. The other attractions this city offers are Kyaiktiyo or the Golden Rock Pagoda, which precariously hangs over a cliff edge 1,100 metres above sea level, defying all laws of gravity, is not to be missed by any visitor to Myanmar. If you love parks and need a break from the city, take a stroll among the luxurious tropical woods that surround the Royal Lake of Kandawgyi. Kandawgyi Lake’s placid surface is any photographer’s dream comes true and it hosts annual regatta of traditional boat races in November. There are lakeside restaurants that serve local food at reasonably prices, but the highpoint of the visit would be Karaweik Hall, which is a bird-shaped floating restaurant on the eastern side of the lake. Then one can even visit the Yangon Zoo beside Kandawgyi Lake, which is again a good place to escape from the heat and hustle and bustle of the city, especially for families with young children. The zoo has over 1,100 animals, representing 200 species that include rare and endangered breeds such as Bengal tigers, Asian elephants and many more. Then one can visit the Happy World Amusement Park, Hlawga Wildlife Park, Inya Lake and many more such places.
