This place is both historically and naturally endowed and is situated at an altitude of 3500 metres above sea level. The natural beauty and seclusion of Gudpi and Chong-Chugmi ranges, Tawang chu River and Tawang valley are very mesmerizing. Tawang Monastery, which is an important seat of Mahayana Buddhism is located here. It is Asia’s second largest monastery and India’s largest with a 28 ft high golden statue of Lord Buddha. There is also a library, which has an impressive collection of ancient books and manuscripts. The famous Buddhist gold inscribed scriptures Kangyur and Tangyur are preserved here. There are beautiful lakes around Tawang. One of them is Pankang Teng Tso (P.T. Tso ) lake. It is a fetching heaven for tourist and is only 17 KM away from crowd of township. It is a beautiful natural site and provide tourist a lucky chance for deep communion with nature. Other eye catching lakes are Sangetser lake , Banggachang lake. Other must see places includes War Memorial, Madhuri Lake named after famous actress, craft centres and other local markets.
