Ujjain, a historical city of Central India, located in the Malwa region of Madhya Pradesh. This city is bounded by the holy waters of the Shipra River and is considered as one of the seven major sites of Hindu pilgrimage. One of the 12 jyotirlingas in India, the lingam at the Mahakal is believed to be swayambhu (born of itself) can be worshipped in this city. The must see places here are Bade Ganeshji Ka Mandir that enshrines a huge artistic sculpture of Ganesh, Mahakaleshwar temple where the presiding deity of time, Shiva, in all his splendour reigns eternal in Ujjain. Then there’s Bhartrihari Caves that are situated above the bank of the Shipra near the temple of Gadkalika, the Chintaman Ganesh temple where the Ganesh idol enshrined is supposed to be swayambhu - born of itself and many more such temples and places.
