The Sanctuary situated on the Vembanad lake, spread across 14 acres, is also known as the Vembanad Bird Sanctuary. It has local birds as well as migratory birds from different parts of the world. The main attractions of local birds are the waterfowl, cuckoo, owl, egret, heron and the water duck. The migratory birds include Flycatcher, Teal, Siberian Stork, Crane and Wood Beetle which are seen during their respective migratory season.

A good way to explore these birds is by taking a boat ride on the Vembanad lake. The best time to bird watch is between June and August. However, to watch migratory birds, you should visit the sanctuary between November to February.
